Firstly in order to reset the forgotten mac user password you need to go through the OS X  recovery mode to reset your mac user password. Steps to reset forgotten Mac user password in recovery mode

  • Firstly restart your MAC and then kepp on hold CMD + R until the apple logo appears on your screen.
  • Now you are in the OS X recovery mode.
  • Open the utilities and then open the terminal .
  • After opening the terminal type “resetpassword” and then press enter
  • Now a new window will open known as reset password window and you should select the OS X drive.
  • From the drop down menu click on select the user account and then you need to select the user account in order to which of them to change the account password.
  • Now you will be asked to enter a new password. Enter the new password for your desired account and then click on save button
  • Then a message appears and have a glance at it and then click ok button.
  • Click on the apple icon and then click on the restart button.
  • Once you MAC is restarted enter your new password and it opens.
  • Now you have successfully changed your password using recovery mode.
