2015 Volkswagen Polo Launched at Rs. 5.23 lakh

Volkswagen India, yesterday, launched the 2015 Polo with new features in the country. Priced in the range of Rs. 5.23 lakh to Rs. 8.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai), the top-end trim of the 2015 Polo gets several new features including cruise control, electrically adjustable outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs) and cooled glove box.

Since it's just model year change, there are no mechanical updates made to it. The Volkswagen Polo continues to feature the same 1.5-litre TDI and 1.2-litre MPI powertrains that are capable of churning out 88bhp, 230Nm and 74bhp, 110Nm respectively. The performance-oriented models - GT TSI and GT TDI too continue to feature the same 1.2-litre TSI (103bhp, 175Nm) and 1.5-litre TDI (103bhp, 250Nm). While a 5-speed manual transmission is a standard offering, the 1.2 GT TSI features a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Mahindra Mojo Launching in October, 2015

It's been four years when we first saw the Mahindra Mojo at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo, but the bike hasn't still seen the light of the day. It was first rumoured to be launched in 2013, but it kept getting delayed as Mahindra Two Wheelers's first innings didn't go well. Though things started changing after the re-launch of the Centuro that has been currently drawing profits for the Mahindra 2 Wheelers.

Also the bike's design has gone through a lot of changes, and the production-version looks quite different from the concept. Now that Mahindra two-wheeler dealers have started taking pre-orders for the bike, we expect it to be launched in October, 2015.

Talking about its design, the front-fascia of the Mojo looks more practical with revised twin head-lamps. Also the vehicle features a digital speedometer with analogue tachometre with a shift light and low-fuel warning indicators. Other features include radial brakes, Pirelli Sport Demon tyres and USD forks.

Power for the Mahindra Mojo will come from a liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, single-cylinder that churns out a maximum power output of 27bhp and 25Nm. This engine will come mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Honda CBR 650F expected to launch in July: Locally assembled CBR 650F to be priced in India at INR 8 lakhs

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India (HMSI) recently announced its decision to launch locally assembled CBR 650F Sports bikes in the country in July. This decision acts in favour to the ongoing ‘Make-In-India’ campaign and could help Honda to use competitive pricing strategy. But sadly that is not the case. According to reports Honda will be launching the CBR 650F in India for a premium price of INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom).

First introduced in 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the CBR 650F Sports bike has been creating a lot of anticipation among the masses. After several speculated launch dates HMSI President and CEO, Keita Muramatsu finally confirmed that the 650F is going to be launched in India in July 2015. "We are planning to introduce CBR650F sometime in July. It will be completely assembled in our plant. It is part of the Make in India concept promoted by the government," he said in a statement.

Though the bikes will enter the Indian shores via CKD (completely knocked down) units, localisation levels on the motorcycle would only be around 5% initially, hence the premium price.

In terms of looks the 650F upholds those basic traits of the CBR family. Similar to its younger siblings the CBR 650F carries an aggressive stance. The overall design looks muscular and complete. The ergonomics of the upholstery looks perfect both for racing endeavours and touring.

Powering this beast is a 649cc liquid-cooled inline four-cylinder engine that produces 90 PS of peek power and 62 Nm of torque, while the transmission duties are taken care of by a six speed gearbox. It also gets a PGM-FI Programmed automatic enrichment circuit with 32mm throttle bodies, 41 mm fork front suspension, single shock rear suspension and a 17-litre fuel tank. Breaking duties are carried out by dual 320mm discs front brake and rear brakes with Single-caliper 240mm disc.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Windsong edition launched

The limited-edition Maruti Swift was unveiled at the Windsong Music Festival in Lonavala.

India’s leading car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, has introduced a limited-edition version of the recently updated Maruti Suzuki Swift. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift Windsong edition has been designed for music lovers and comes loaded with attractive body decals and various new features.

The limited-edition Maruti Suzuki Swift Windsong was launched at the Windsong Music Festival which was held in Lonavala, Maharashtra last weekend. Maruti will be producing just 100 units of the Suzuki Swift Windsong and the limited-edition model will only be offered in petrol powered VXi and diesel VDi variant of the hatchback.

This is essentially based on the regular Maruti Suzuki Swift which was launched late last year with subtle changes like restyled bumpers, silver insets around the fog lamps, electrical folding mirrors and push button start.
To give the Maruti Suzuki Swift Windsong a distinct character are bright yellow-black-grey musical decals on the side profile of the car. The limited-edition will only be offered in Arctic White body colour with a couple of sporty black stripes running from the bonnet, through the roof over to the bootlid and rear bumper.

At the back, it gets a spoiler and new mud flaps on all four wheels. The car displayed at Windsong Music Festival also came with side skirts and matching yellow 15-inch alloy wheels to accenture the sporty appeal of the Maruti Swift Windsong edition.

On the inside, the Maruti Swift Windsong limited-edition carries forward the same black interiors with yellow highlights on the steering wheel, along with silver accents on the dashboard. There’s also matching Windsong edition upholstery, illuminated door sill guards, PVC floor mats and ambient lighting.

The big attraction is a new Sony touchscreen music system which comes equipped with CD, DVD, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Apart from this, the Maruti Swift Windsong limited also features a reverse camera along with parking sensors.

The Maruti Suzuki Swift Windsong remains mechanically identical to regular Swift models and will come powered with 1.2-litre K-Series petrol motor or a 1.3-liter Multijet diesel. The carmaker has announced various equipment upgrades for the Jaguar XF line-up and a new run-out variant called the Jaguar XF R-Sport Black. The all-new Jaguar XF will receive its world premiere at the New York Auto Show.

The R-Sport Black edition rides on 20-inch Black Kalimnos alloys and receives a 770W Meridian Surround Sound system, full leather upholstery, sports seats with memory function and a choice of five paint shades. 

A 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine runs under the hood of the Jaguar XF R-Sport Black version to develop 220PS of power and 450Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It allows the sedan to accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 8.5 seconds before hitting a top-speed of 225kmph.

All models in the XF range will now come with the heated seats and windscreen, front parking sensors and a rear-view camera. Portfolio, Diesel S Portfolio, XFR and XFR-S models get blind spot monitor as standard, and most of these models also get upgraded alloys.

As mentioned above, the all-new Jaguar XF will receive its world premiere at the New York Auto Show which is set to kickstart from April 1, 2015.

KTM, the Austrian bikemaker, due to the excise duty concession roll back, has increased the prices of its bike line-up in India by 3-5 percent. The recently launched RC 200 and RC 390, which were earlier priced at Rs. 1.60 lakh and Rs. 2.05 lakh, get dearer by Rs. Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 8,000 respectively. With 5.5% and 4.9% price hikes, the Duke 200 and Duke 390 street-fighters get costlier by Rs. 7,190 and Rs. 8,987 respectively.

The company is also planning to introduce a new slipper clutch technology for its RC bikes in India. The slipper clutch system prevents the rear wheel of bike from locking up during downshifts and releasing the clutch suddenly. This technology will aid the stability of bike under serious braking situations.

The newly launched KMT RC bikes (RC 390 and RC 200) received overwhelming response in India. The KTM RC 200 is powered by a 200cc, single-cylinder engine that produces a maximum power of 24bhp with 19Nm of torque, while the KTM RC 390 derives its power from a 375cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that belts out a peak power of 43bhp with 35Nm of torque. Both the bikes get a six-speed transmission.

Nissan launches compact family wagon Datsun Go+ at Rs 3.79 lakh

Having got off to a modest start with its Go hatchback, Datsun has launched a compact MPV at an aggressive price of Rs 3.79 lakh to Rs 4.61 lakh, seeking to catch the eye of those looking to buy a bigger car for the first time. Datsun is the entry level car brand of Nissan Motor India. 

The company has sold about 12,000 Go hatchbacks in the last 10 months, which is almost half the monthly number of the Alto that No. 1 Maruti Suzuki sells. The new Go+ is aimed at offering yet another alternative to price-conscious Indian buyers, thereby creating a new segment in the Indian passenger vehicle market. "Indian people are very demanding, they always want more without an increase in price and Go+ is just that," Guillaume Sicard, president, Nissan India Operations, told ET. 

"It is an innovative product, which fulfills the Indian car buyer's need of maximum comfort, space, fuel efficiency and active safety." 

The Go+ is available only with a petrol engine option and it is less than 4 metres in length, making it eligible for a lower excise slab. The MPV is positioned in the segment below the sub-4 metre sedan and delivers 30% more boot space. 

Experts said the MPV is priced closely to the hatchback and could cannibalize sales of the small car. But managing director Arun Malhotra said the MPV will lead to incremental volumes, which will help the company increase acceptability of the Datsun brand.

Audi to bring 10 new cars to India in 2015

The year 2015 will start with R8, the company's flagship model, getting two new eyes with the Matrix LED treatment and unveiled as the range topping R8 LMX.
